Welcome to the Genoid World

Filed under: Uncategorized — Wild Wolf @ 5:30 pm

This site will feature stories and info on my Guardian Angels series.

Here is the prelude to the series:

50 years ago, in the year 2012, an event occurred the changed the world. A scientist by the name of Ira Storavich successfully combined the DNA of a human with a rat. Her name was Gene, which, according to rumors, was short for Genetically Engineered. Her birth, however, encouraged Ira to create more, and this time, he used more exotic animals. From wolves to tigers and even a couple lizards. It was also soon discovered that what created us was basically a virus and spread to other species. My parents were among those first to step from the lab into the real world of the humans. At first, the humans were fine with our presence. They even gave us a new nickname: Genoids which was short for Genetically Engineered Humanoid. But, slowly, as we became our own race and started to breed successfully, they became more and more afraid of us. They first tried to have Dr. Ira arrested, but the courts ruled he did nothing wrong. So, they took the law into their own hands and killed him.

When we found out, we simply shrugged it off. We were on our own, and there was no one to defend us. The humans hatred for us has grown over the years, and 50 years later, as our own people, we are just starting to speak out against the discrimination against us. Inspired by humans like Susan B. Anthony and Dr. Martin Luther King Junior, we have made our speeches, and still we are ignored. However, recently, the humans have been caving to our demands. We have been granted the right to go to colleges and get jobs. Luckily, I’ve been able to be apart of the first of us to graduate. Now, with only a generation separating the first of us and those that are working hard to turn this tide, we feel the hope of our people riding on our shoulders.

However, we are not without our own problems. There are Genoids who hate the humans just as much as they are hated by them. And our communities have their own crime rates that are spiraling out of control. For the past ten years, I have heard the screams of my people for someone to put an end to it. That was why I became a police officer and worked hard to be one of the best.

My name is Saipia Jones. I am a wolf. But I am also the leader of a new organization that is seeking to answer those cries. The stories you will read are tales of our adventures. None of which are pretty. But, crime rarely is. Law enforcement agencies know us as “G.U.E.S.T.” or the “Genoid Urban Equalization and Safety Team.” But to those we protect – to our own people – we will always be known as Guardian Angels.

Episode 2: “Equal”

Guardian Angels

Last Time:

Captain Saipia Jones and the rest of us Genoids or genetically engineered humanoids among the force have been on the receiving end of a lot of hatred amongst our human partners. As the discrimination got worse and worse, we found ourselves and our people longing for relief. When a Genoid deputy was killed by his partner, it showed the world just how bad everything had become. In response to that and our exceptional performance, the mayor of our city called in Saipia and I, Captain James Elissa Connell, to discuss the formation of a new team of Genoids that would be an answer to many prayers. This is how we earned our nickname of “Guardian Angels” despite the our team jackets and vests displaying our actual name of “G.U.E.S.T.” or “Genoid Urban Equalization and Safety Team.” However, we are about to discover that not everyone is so thrilled to see our new little team.

Episode 2: “(≠)Equal(≠)

James had slept on the couch again. Normally it would be her husband on the sofa, but she was tired of his whining, and had been opting to simply sleep in the living room for the past couple nights. The maned wolf was one of the first of her kind, but, now she was getting closer and closer to being the first of her specie to get a divorce. Being a police officer, James had known many other Genoids who had been married, but are single now, but those were usually because one spouse had died. She had stayed up the night before to check to see if any other Genoids had actually gotten divorced, and she discovered that there were no records of such a thing.

The captain wouldn’t have minded so much, but the divorce would be her own fault and she knew it. It wasn’t because she was putting her job over her husband, it was because she was putting her boss over everything. James loved her boss way more than she should. Saipia had been there for her in some rough times, and it was in those times that the older canine felt herself falling in love with the white wolf. Unfortunately, Saipia would never return her advances, but James didn’t care. The maned wolf never thought of herself as a lesbian, but, she did feel more at ease around Saipia. James had known that Saipia had slept with a couple women in college but she also slept with more men than women. Now, however, the Assistant Chief was much more focused on her work and freeing her people. Something which James appreciated.

By the time her husband wondered out to the kitchen, James was just finishing her breakfast and about to head out the door. The two of them hardly spoke any more. Every time James laid eyes on the maned wolf she married, something inside her said she only married him because he was the same specie. “You working late again, tonight?” he asked.

“Maybe. I know I’ll probably be going out to eat with either Saipia or Erica after work, though,” the female canine commented as she slipped her pistol the holster on her hip.

“That’s a fully automatic pistol,” commented Jason.

“Yeah. Saipia wanted to make sure we had enough firepower to take out these rings. So, for now, the fully automatic 9mm is standard issue,” James said as she grabbed her keys. “Anyways, I’ve got to go to work. Talk to you later, Jason.”

“Yeah. I love you!” called the red and black male canine.

James didn’t respond to the statement as she slid into the patrol car she had borrowed from the precinct. As the woman drove to work, she had to dwell on her marriage and whether it was worth continuing. It wasn’t any fault of Jason’s. In fact, the two of them had a great marriage together and there was a time when James loved her husband with all her heart, but ever since she met Saipia, their marriage wasn’t as great as it used to be. James became a cop to be around the blue wolf. She had told Jason that she was becoming a doctor and when she returned as a cop, the two had a massive argument. Saipia, however had been thankful that she had a friend through the long, drawn out process of becoming the highest scoring Genoid cop ever.

The captain had to slam on her breaks to avoid hitting a young badger as it scurried across the road. James didn’t notice it’s parents anywhere. “Where are your parents, little one?” she asked more to herself than anyone else. It occurred to her that the kid’s parents might have been kidnapped or killed. As she sat there and watched the kid waddle away into the early morning of the city, she watched a shadow follow him. “Damn,” she said and quickly slipped from her car and chased after the kid.

Without a word, James snatched up the badger and made a be line for her car. The shadow that had been hunting the kid stepped into the sunlight and revealed itself to be a large fox. “A Genoid was after you?” she asked and put the kid in the passenger’s seat as the fox shot her in the shoulder. James returned fire, shooting the fox in both knees. After the male canine let out a blood chilling scream, James cuffed him and threw him in the back of her cruiser. “Try not to bleed on the leather,” she commented and continued her drive towards the precinct.

The fox began to cuss and curse about everything and even threatened to sue the officer who who was in full uniform with her rank proudly displayed. As soon as James stopped in front of the precinct, she immediately hauled the fox out of her car, making sure to remind him of his wounds. Quickly she tore a swath of the man’s shirt and gagged him with it. Moving around to the other side of her cruiser, she let the kid out who hurried into the precinct. “Don’t wonder off too far,” James called as she entered the multi-story building.

Erica was there to greet the older maned wolf when she arrived. “Hey, James. Already catch a bad guy, huh?” the jaguar greeted.

“Yeah. He was after the kid,” James replied, her tail swaying irritably from side to side.

“A fox? Chasing a badger?” Erica wondered.

“Yes. Apparently, not all the abduction rings are by humans,” Saipia replied as she wondered upon the two. Another officer hauled away the fox for medical attention.

“That’s not a good thing, Sai,” James commented.

“I know. And they would be our next target, but we don’t have enough information on them. My brothers mentioned that they heard that there are two rings that are run by Genoids, but that’s all the information we have. Hopefully, that fox you brought in will give us more information,” the blue wolf explained.

“Well, then, what’s the goal for today?” asked the maned wolf.

“You’re mission is to get that shoulder checked out and I will fill you in when you get back. The rest of us are going to check out a Genoid slave ring. Or at least Erica and the others are. I’m going to stay with you to make sure you get your injuries treated and then we’re going to extract some information from our fox friend,” Saipia ordered.

“Ah, I thought we were going to lunch together,” Jack commented as he wondered up in his G.U.E.S.T. Uniform and cowboy hat.

“Jack, do you even know when the last time Saipia when on a date was?” James asked.

The big hyena shrugged. “Does anyone?”

“I do. Until humans and Genoids gave live together in relative peace, I wouldn’t be expecting more than the occasional hug and handshake from her,” the superior officer remarked.

“Actually, James, Gjai and I were going to catch a movie and dinner this weekend and we were wondering if you wanted to come along,” Saipia invited.

“Umm…sure. I can swing that. What about Erica?” James wondered.

“I have to babysit for my sister this weekend or I’d be right there with you,” the cat mentioned with a disappointed sigh.

The fifth member of the team finally strolled upon the group. James Jewels smiled at his teammates he approached. “James, the ladies are busy this weekend. How about you and I and the good doctor all go off and grab a beer?”

“Only if you let me pick the beer,” commented the border collie.

“Hell no. You’re just going to pick some of that bitter crap,” Jack retorted.

“Yeah. That’s what beer is supposed to be. That’s the point of putting hops in it,” defended James.

“Well, I’m the superior officer,” countered the hyena.

“Hey, Jack, if you’re going to pull that ranks crap, you can go all George Thorogood and drink alone,” the smaller canine replied.

“Anyways, you all can talk about weekend parties on your way to the slave ring. Now, this is no ordinary slave ring, guys. These bastards sell Genoids for all kinds of things. Think what happened to the Africans only ten times worse. The women are usually sold for sex and maids or both while the men are usually sold into labor camps. Kids are raised into all kids of slavery,” Saipia briefed.

“Just watch yourself guys, with a couple Genoid rings out there, there’s not many people we can trust. And those two are the only ones we know about,” the captain warned.

“She’s right. I don’t want any of you getting yourself killed out there. I wouldn’t be surprised if this slavery ring has a couple Genoid slaves of their own to be used as bodyguards. As soon as James and I finish with our interrogation, we’ll join up with you and provide backup if it’s needed,” Saipia agreed.

“Right. Anyway, we should get going. Wouldn’t want to keep those scumbags waiting,” Jack replied and the three of them headed out to a waiting cruiser.

Saipia and James watched as their teammates went to their mission. “You don’t look so good, James, and it’s not just because of the bullet in your shoulder.” the blue wolf said after a moment.

“I really don’t want to talk about it,” the maned wolf replied with a heavy sigh.

The AC looked at her officer blankly for a moment. She cared about her people and those under her command, and would have loved to delve into what was eating her second in command, but at that moment, there were more important things to delve into. Like news about the Genoid operated Genoid abduction rings. “Whatever, James,” Saipia finally said with a shrug. “But we should get that shoulder looked at while that fox sweats it out a little bit.”

“I’m fine, you know,” commented the captain, causing Saipia to turn back towards the taller canine.

“Don’t make me order to, James. I’m trying to run this unit as casually as I can. I don’t want to force you to do what you don’t want to do. I’m not having you get that wound looked at for your physical health. You’ve just been a little out of it lately. Figured you could use a little rest,” Saipia half warned, her tail signaling she was getting a little irritated.

That news caught James off guard. Although, it shouldn’t have surprised her that Saipia would pick up on subtle inconsistencies in her team’s behavior. Saipia had trained long and hard to become the leader she was. And part of that training was the art of observation. With another sigh, James clasped her bleeding shoulder and nodded her understanding to her boss with a simple, “Yes, ma’am.”

* * *

The sigh the maned wolf heaved as the medic bandaged her wound was on of relief with a little irritation mixed in. Saipia was right, she did feel better after being able to sort through her thoughts. The captain slipped her uniform back on once she was cleared. “I want to see you again before you go home, Captain,” ordered the medic. “You’ll most likely need you bandages changed then.”

James nodded her understanding and wordlessly exited the small infirmary that was attached to the precinct. As she stepped out into the police station, James glanced towards her boss who was standing on “How are you always right? You’re nearly twenty years younger than me,”

“And I studied ten times as hard as you in college. I seem to recall you always out at parties while I was in the room going over notes and things,” Saipia answered, a police cap now adorning her head with her ears keeping it in place.

“Don’t give me that. You went to plenty of parties yourself. I seem to recall you running into our room one night scared to death that you were pregnant,” James retorted with her arms folded over her chest, drawing a warm smile from the younger canine.

“Anyway, you feeling up to a little good cop/bad cop?” the blue wolf asked, quickly changing the subject.

James nodded. “How’s the kid?”

“Fine. Anne is taking care of him,” Saipia replied, her smile getting bigger.

“Ah. The best Child Services agent we know,” the maned wolf said, returning her boss’s smile. James watched Saipia nod for a moment. “Let’s find out what the bastard knows.”

* * *

Saipia and James arrived on the scene of the slavery ring just as the rest of the Angels were bringing out the ring leaders. “Well, it looks like you guys have everything under control,” Saipia commented as the two women stepped out of their cruiser.

“Yeah. I guess we don’t need our beloved leader to help us kick some ass,” Jack replied with a smile.

“How’d the interrogation go? Did you two find out anything?” Erica wondered.

“Oh yeah. That fox sang like a canary after Saipia threatened to cut off his balls with a rusty knife,” Captain James said as the two team high ranking officers shared a smile.

“I’m impressed, Sai, that old trick still works. One of these times, someone’s going to call your bluff,” the jaguar retorted with a crooked smile as she stuffed a human into the back of a patrol car.

“Who said I was bluffing?” Saipia joked and got a laugh from her all her team.

Their friendly banter was interrupted, however, when one of the slaves that were beginning to filter out suddenly dropped dead, an apparent bullet hole in his head. Before any could ask what was going on, there was a barrage of gunfire from inside the hideout. Instantly, the Angels went into defensive mode. “This is the police! Cease fire and come out with your hands up or we will return fire,” Saipia called over the loudspeaker of her patrol car.

There was a moment of silence before an audible gunshot brought to end another Genoid life. Saipia crept to the trunk of her patrol car and pulled out an XM30 with a grenade attachment. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you,” she said as she loaded a tear gas grenade in the launcher. “Momma said not to kill any innocent people.” There was the familiar THOONK from the launcher as the grenade floated into the hideout.

As soon as the grenade left her rifle, Saipia slapped in a live magazine and prepared for a fire fight, as did the rest of her team, including Captain James who retrieved a M249 Squad Automatic Weapon. Luckily, no one had to use their weapons, as a group of six heavily armored humans stumbled out of the front door, weezing and coughing. “Drop your weapons and put your hands in the air,” commanded the blue wolf.

Without a word, the men complied and the Genoid officers zip tied the criminals. “And just who are you idiots supposed to be?” Saipia asked as she strolled up in front of the group, not at all pleased at having to deal with the loss of two innocent lives.

“We don’t have to answer to Genoid scum,” said one of the humans.

“Oh really. Well then, you can just rot in jail ’cause, in case the sun is in your eyes, I’m Commander of the Genoid Urban Equalization and Safety Team or GUEST. That means under the Chief, I’m the boss around here as I’m the ONLY Genoid Commander on the force,” Saipia returned, her tail snapping around with anger and irritation.

The men glanced at each other as a couple of the squad cars cleared out. “Sorry, ma’am, we didn’t know,” responded another of the humans. He was bald and had a scar on his chin that Saipia figured was probably from a fight with one of her people. “But, I think we should talk about this back at the station.”

* * *

Back at the station, James and Jack stood behind the leader of the band of killers while Saipia interrogated him. “We’re from a new group called the ‘Genoid Elimination Squad’ or ‘Genoid Elimination Team’. We’re hired to kill any and all Genoids we come across,” the bald man admitted.

“And under who’s authority do you do this?” Saipia asked.

“What, didn’t you all hear? The President’s doesn’t really care for yall,” he said, glancing around at the creatures around him.

“We do know that, actually. What’s your point?” Saipia replied in a tone that wiped the smug look off the man’s face.

“Well, we were special forces, but we all got orders direct from the President himself. He’s set up an extermination team for you guys,” the GET leader answered.

Saipia’s mouth rarely dropped in surprise, and, although this news did surprise her, she was far too pissed to open her mouth. Instead she dropped her head a little bit and fold her arms over her chest. After a few deep breathes she glanced up at James who just nodded and took over the interrogation while Saipia went to cool down a bit. Poring herself a cup of coffee, the blue wolf took a deep breath as she entered her office, the door slightly ajar as the rank on the door was in the process of being changed. Her mind raced with thoughts of what to do about the GET soldiers and the all the new information she received from the fox that had been brought in that morning. Still in her black police uniform, she tried her best to relax, taking deep breaths.

To further try to calm herself a bit, Saipia went over her team’s files and seriously decided that she would be looking to see if she could promote some of them over the next few months. This was in part due to a request on her computer for Personelle Reviews already. Luckily she had the majority of two months to do write up her reviews. Always one to get an honest review, she planned not to tell her team that they were under review. Saipia sighed when she glanced her second in command’s file. “Damn, James, I don’t know what I’m going to do with you. As it stands at the moment…” the wolf muttered to herself and typed scrolled down to the “Notes” section of Mrs. Connell’s file and proceeded to type up her current opinion.

A good officer. Always thinking of others and not afraid to inform her superiors when they’re doing something they shouldn’t be doing. I’m proud to have her as my second in command. However, recently, Captain III James Elisa Connell has been a little out of it, lately. My current recommendation is for her take some leave, go on a nice vacation and when she returns, I would recommend she see a counselor. Hopefully, she’ll be back to her old self in time for me to recommend her for a promotion.

Again the Commander sighed as she clicked on the “file” button on the screen. She didn’t want to ruin her friend’s reputation, but she couldn’t recommend her for promotion if she was as distracted as she was. And as she got more and more distracted, the more useless James was becoming.

Unfortunately, Saipia’s thoughts were interrupted by the very Genoid she had been thinking of. “You going to be alright, Commander?” the black and red canine asked.

“Yeah. I will be. The question is, my old friend, are you going to be alright?” the blue wolf replied.

James sighed at that and turned her head away from the her leader. The Captain’s hands quickly moved behind her and clasped together. “I think so.” James knew her friend was trying to decide what to do with her, but she didn’t know that Saipia had already made up her mind.

“Listen, Captain,” Saipia started. She only used rank when she had something important to tell her team. “Jack, Erica, Jewels and I are going over to D.C. I want you to make the arrangements then go home.”

“I suppose that’s an order,” the maned wolf said with a heavy sigh. “I’m sorry for being…”

“I don’t want to hear excuses, Erica. I want to hear that you are doing great and aren’t thinking about your marriage or whatever while your supposed to be focusing on your mission. I want you to take a couple weeks off. Take that husband of yours on vacation, and when you come back, if you’re still distracted, I know a great counselor,” Saipia ordered.

James nodded her understanding. She was a little hurt, but knew Saipia was right. Maybe a vacation was what she needed. “Do you know any vacation spots that are friendly towards Genoids?”

“I do actually. I have some vacation time coming up and I’ve been doing a lot of research into that very thing. Hawaii seems pretty accepting. And there’s a couple places up in Washington. Alaska is a good bet, as well,” Saipia suggested.

“Hawaii? Really? Hmm…I’ll have to run the choices by Jason. Maybe you can email me all the information on the destinations. We always wanted to take a honeymoon in Hawaii, but had trouble booking flights and everything,” James said.

“Flying is pretty much a no-go for any destination. But, here is a lovely cruise that will take you from LA to the Big Island. If you decide to take that cruise and vacation, I’ll extend your vacation time to an entire month,” Saipia replied.

“Oh, well, I think I might have to surprise my husband with our dream honeymoon,” said James with a pleasant smile. “Don’t worry, you and the others will be in D.C. By tomorrow. I’m assuming you only want to stay for a day.”

Saipia nodded as she swallowed some coffee. “The sooner we’re back here, the better. I’m just going over there to give the President a piece of my mind, and the others are going to cover my ass and make sure I don’t do anything too stupid.”

“Maybe you should take Bryan with you,” joked James.

* * *

Saipia did take the team’s doctor with them. After careful consideration, she had determined that she might actually need a doctor on the trip. Now, five members of the Guardian Angels were strapped tightly in full police uniforms in the back of a C-130 with about twenty soldiers in full flack vests, helmets and uniform. When Saipia had told James to secure them transportation to D.C., a military flight wasn’t what she had in mind.

“What do you think they’re dressed up for?” Jack shouted at his commander over the loud drone of the cargo plane’s engines.

Saipia simply shrugged in response. She had a feeling she wouldn’t like their answer if she asked and the glance a Staff Sergeant gave her all but confirmed her suspicions. Suddenly, the leader felt the weights of her people on her shoulders. The discrimination towards her kind was still very out of hand, and it was going to take all her might and effort to turn the tide. She was thankful to her team, but the longer they sat on that plane, the smaller Saipia felt and the more hopeless her task seemed.

The blue wolf was thankful when they finally touched down in the nation’s capital. As the officers grabbed their bags, they all hurried off the plane and Saipia quickly rented them an SUV. With Jack riding up front with her, Saipia felt mildly safer. Once everyone was buckled up, Saipia showed her team just how eager she was to get out of the base, driving at the posted speed limit all the way to their hotel.

Saipia was surprised that James had gotten them rooms at a five star hotel, but, indeed, she had. She was thankful for that. “Alright, there we have three rooms on the top floor. Erica is with me. Jack and Jewels, are together, and Bryan gets a room to himself,” the commander said as the group approached the front desk.

“Why didn’t Captain James join us again?” Bryan asked.

“Because she needed to get her head out of the clouds. Being a Genoid task force assigned to clean up the Genoid community in Tensiletown is incredibly dangerous and I can’t have one of my officers not feeling a hundred percent. So, I gave her a month off. She and her husband should be well on their way to Hawaii by the time we wake up tomorrow,” Saipia explained as she showed the clerk her ID and signed all the papers she needed to.

“Alright, Mrs. Jones, enjoy your stay,” the human said with a smile.

“Thanks, and it’s Miss Jones. I have no intention of getting married for a while,” the blue wolf commented and lead her team towards the elevators.

They were all thankful to see they weren’t the only Genoids in the hotel, but the looks some of the human guests gave them, reminded them all why the entire team was there. “You bring your dye?” Erica asked as the rode the steal box to the tenth floor.

“Of course. Everyone knows me as a blue wolf. If I went around without my dye, no one would recognize me. Hell, Jewels and Bryan haven’t even seen me without my dye in,” Saipia responded.

“I thought it was your natural hair color,” Sergeant James commented with a shrug.

“Who ever heard of a blue wolf?” Erica asked with a questioning glance towards her teammate.

The younger collie gave another shrug as the doors to the elevator opened and the group filed out into the hall. As the five Genoid officers walked towards their rooms, a human family slipped out of their room and entered the hall. The parents were a little shocked and slightly horrified at the sight of the human/animal hybrids, but their two children smiled in excitement at them. Smiling warmly at the humans, Saipia casually paused in front of her door. Turning around she held out a pad towards her team. “All these room are biometrically sealed. But, all you have to do is press your thumb onto this pad, and then press it again on your assigned key,” Saipia explained as she dangled the three different colored, thumb-shaped keys.

Jack and James were the first to program their keys and retreat into their room. Bryan was next, giving his leader a tense look and a fitting sigh. Saipia then allowed Erica to program her key before finally programming her own. The two were impressed at the size of their room and the softness of the beds. “Well, it’s not quite bedtime yet, you want do anything?” Erica asked.

“Actually, I am starving. Let me get the dye out of my fur and we’ll go grab a bite to eat. I’ll even buy,” replied Saipia as she dug through her things and grabbed a change of clothes.

“Alright. I could use some food, as well,” the jaguar agreed.

* * *

The shower felt wonderfully refreshing to Saipia. Her blue dye washing out with a little bit of shampoo and revealing her natural white fur. Sometimes Saipia hated wearing her blue dye. Sometimes she got a little claustophobic encased in the synthetic cocktail of organic, inorganic, natural and unnatural things. Shedding her cocoon felt better than the shower. The cop was thankful that she had gotten plenty of rest on the six hour flight, but it meant she hadn’t eaten anything all day, and now, her empty stomach was complaining about it’s lack of attention. And it knew what it wanted.

Saipia made sure all the dye was out of her fur before turning off the water and stepping from the tub and drying off. She hurriedly dressed, catching the sound of Erica allowing Jack to enter their room. Quickly, she tossed on a bra, panties, white blouse and a nice skirt. Looking at herself in the mirror in the bathroom quickly, she smiled. She liked how she looked attractive and professional at the same time.

Satisfied with her appearance, the now white wolf gathered her clothes together and stepped from the bathroom. “Hello, Evan. You’re not going with us.”

“And why not?” the big hyena asked, now dressed in a pair of blue jeans, a white shirt and his trademark cowboy hat.

“Because, I don’t want to have dinner with anyone from the opposite sex,” Saipia said with a shrug.

Erica laughed as did Jack after a fake look of indignancy. “Well, that’s understandable. But, I didn’t come here to ask if you two wanted to grab a beer. I’m here to find out when you want us to get up tomorrow.”

Saipia thought about that a moment. “I think anytime before ten in the morning should be fine. Now, if you’ll excuse us, Erica and I have a date.” she commented.

“Yes, ma’am. You ladies stay safe, now. James and I are going to grab a beer in the lobby and I think Bryan is getting food in. See you tomorrow, Commander. Lieutenant,” Jack said with a tip of his hat to both ladies before he exited the room.

Erica had changed into a pink shirt and a pair of black jeans while Saipia was in the shower. The cat tossed her boss her purse and followed the white wolf out of the room. When they stepped into the hall again, James was standing outside his room waiting for Jack. When he saw the white Saipia, he really didn’t recognize her. His eyes went wide and his jaw dropped at the sight of the beautiful new wolf. “Don’t get too excited, James,” Jack commented as he stepped from the room. “She’s mine.”

“In your dreams, Evan,” Saipia called as she pressed the down button next to the elevator.

“Saipia? Is that really you?” the collie asked, his voice full of awe.

“Yeah,” the commander nodded.

The metal box arrived and the two women entered. When the doors closed, the two shared a laugh. “Man, it feels so good to be out and about without that dye in my fur. I might have to go without it until we head back.”

“Well, I think most people like your white fur better. Personally, I think you look kind of cute in blue,” Erica replied.

Saipia laughed. “Aren’t you engaged, Erica?”

“Yes, I am. Speaking of which, Tim has agreed that you should be my maid of honor,” the jaguar agreed. “And aren’t you and Jack a couple?”

The white wolf shook her head. “No. I mean, I wouldn’t mind going out with him, but I have too much on my shoulders at the moment. I’m not really not looking for a relationship at the moment. Besides, my parents would probably kill me if I started dating a hyena.” Erica laughed at that and nodded.

* * *

The meal the night before and a good breakfast in the morning helped Saipia prepare for her confrontation with the human President. Wearing her police uniform, but not her dye, the commander marched into the white house. Captain James had apparently made all the arrangements before she left. Everyone seemed to be expecting them and she was thankful for that.

Despite the invitation, however, everyone but Saipia was armed. Erica and Jack had battle rifles and James and Bryan both had pistols. They didn’t carry them in a threatening manner, but they were there, just in case things got out of hand. Casually, the five officers were escorted to the Oval Office by a group of secret service agents. “You know, normally, we wouldn’t let anyone in here with those weapons,” the lead agent commented.

“Normally, we wouldn’t bring them. But we are Genoids and the President did create a team to kill us,” Saipia replied.

“That’s why we haven’t taken your weapons from you. You know, most of us Secret Service guys are routing for you Genoids. If you need any help, just let us know,” the human officer commented and his partner behind the group nodded in agreement as they arrived at the doors to the President’s office.

Saipia nodded her thanks to them then motioned to Jack and Erica to stay outside the office. The two higher ranking officers nodded their understanding and took up positions in the hallway to make sure no one tried to get into the office and kill their boss.

With a deep breath, Saipia pushed open the doors and entered the room. There, behind the large oak desk was an elderly white male with short white hair. “Good afternoon, Mr. President. I believe we have an appointment,” Saipia greeted.

The old man looked up from the paper he was writing on and gave the white wolf and her officers an unpleasant look. “Damn Genoid scum. What do you want?”

“We are not scum, sir. It was one of your scientists who created us,” Saipia said as James and Bryan turned around.

“A minor detail which this nation will forget all about when your all wiped off the planet,” the old man remarked.

Saipia crossed her arms over her chest. “You do realize that us Genoids have moved to other nations. And Hawaii has completely ignored your laws. Hell, Washington state welcomes us with open arms.”

“I know. That’s why I created the Genoid Elimination Squad. You know, I was really pissed when I heard you had your own little gang of heroes in Hollywood, but I have to say that it’s going to be hard to kill you,” replied the President.

The white wolf smiled. “The only thing my team is going to die from is natural causes, Mr. President. Discrimination is root of war. But, be warned, there are a lot more people on our side than you think. If you decide to go to war with us, you will loose and if I catch any of your little death squad in my city, don’t expect to see them again because they’ll either be in jail or dead.”

“Well, you should know, Missy, that I have a lot of friends, too,” the President defended.

“What? Like the L.A. Mayor? Yeah. I know about her. And if you think she’s an issue, you better think again,” Saipia retorted.

The President was shocked at that news. “But, how do you know about her?”

“Well, I did study for years to become the best cop I can be. And that includes noticing even the smallest of details, like how the Mayor lady wears a Presidential pin on her lapel and the dirty look she gives me when no one’s looking. And she didn’t seem all that surprised when I mentioned the Genoid Abduction Rings, which probably means she owns a slave or two. Plus, I’m a Genoid. I may walk and talk like a human but my eyes still belong to a wolf. I can see, smell, hear, taste and feel things you humans can’t. And that woman wreaks of evil,” spat the white canine, her tale twitching in irritation. “She smells exactly like this office.”

The human was even more taken aback by that information. “What do you mean?”

“To you, we maybe monsters, but you humans live with real monsters everyday. When the war you’re about to start begins, we’ll have the advantage because we can see those monsters,” explained Saipia. “Do you know what my name means, Mr. President?”

“You’re name?” He asked.

“Yeah. Saipia. Do you know what it means? Do you even know where it comes from?” reiterated the wolf.

“No. I didn’t even…” the old man began.

“It means Peace Maker. It comes from the Language of the Wolves. You see, my mother was one of the first wolves to be converted. When Dr. Ira went to name her, she stopped him. She already had a name: Zephra. She never forgot the old ways. And that is why I’m the leader of my team. I was raised to be an alpha wolf. And I was raised to defend my pack with the same fierceness a feral wolf would. When I was born, my mother said God himself whispered my name to her. I never believed her until now,” Saipia said and turned to leave.

The old man awoke from his trance and laughed at the mention of the deity. “God? You honestly think God is going to save you, little girl? You lost his support when you became a Genoid. You’re going to die just like…”

Saipia gave a shrug in the middle of his speech, silencing him. “I never said I believe in God, sir. I’m just trying to keep you from doing something you’ll regret. We Genoids are not to be taken lightly or underestimated. There are a lot of things you don’t know about us or this world. And if you try to start a war with us, all those little secrets will be revealed.”

With that, Saipia left the Oval Office, followed by her Bryan and James. Without a word, the white wolf slipped past Jack, Erica and the two Secret Service agents. Her team quickly followed her without question. “So, does your name really mean ‘Peace Maker’?” James asked.

“I had no need to lie to him, James. Everything I said in there was the truth,” Saipia replied.

“Well, then, Commander, what’s the plan, now?” Jack questioned.

“I don’t know about you, but I’m going back to the hotel to take a nap before lunch. Our plane home isn’t until tomorrow, so try to relax today. But be on your guard. President Izen knows we’re here, and he’ll probably try to have us killed before we leave,” Saipia said.

“You need some company with your nap?” Erica asked.

“Sure. Just keep your hands to yourself,” the wolf replied.

“What are we going to do when we get back?” Jack questioned.

Saipia paused at that. “We’re going to do what we were trained to do. We’re still cops, and we’re still Genoids. We’re going to protect or people from all threats. Including whatever Joseph K. Izen can through at us. Just don’t forget you’re not human. Not entirely, anyway.”

“Yes, ma’am,” the other officers said in unison.

Next Time:

Now officially in the public eye in the most public city, it is only a matter of time before Saipia and the other Angels get the spotlight shined on them. Now, they will not only treated as celebrities, but they will have to protect one, as well. But will they gain a friend, or an enemy?

Episode 1: “Needed G.U.E.S.T.”

Saipia (say-pee-ya) Jones and Erica Martin rushed silently down the dark hallway, night vision goggles strapped tightly to their mammalian heads. Although neither the blue-dyed white wolf leader nor the jaguar actually needed the goggles, but their boss was insistent that all his employees train with them. As the two came to an intersection, Saipia, the wolf and captain of the precinct’s Genoid (Genetically Engineered Humanoid) population, took up a position on the south side of the hallway while Erica, the jaguar, took up a position on the north side. Their tails completely still and their ears scanning for any sounds of guards or an ambush.

Both women had their guns drawn, ready in case they needed them. Being sure to keep to the walls, Erica peered down the corridor heading to the south, while Saipia looked down the north corridor. The taller, older cat spotted their target: a security console with an overweight officer munching on some chips and playing a video game on one of the monitors that was supposed to be tuned to watching the very halls the two animal-human hybrids were in. Erica signaled her find to her leader by pointing towards the target then making a fist with the back of her hand facing the wolf.

Saipia nodded her understanding before pointing down the north corridor and firing a fake gun with her fingers to signal another guard was making his way down the north corridor and right towards them. Silently, the blue wolf held up three fingers and slowly dropped them one by one. Once she ran out of fingers, the two women spun around their respective corners. Erica easily took out the approaching guard with two well placed “rounds.” The illusion of a real event being dispelled once the bright green, glow-in-the-dark paintballs marked the officer on his chest. The “guard” dropped to the floor as if he had actually been shot. Meanwhile, Saipia pulled out a small disc-shaped Static Pulse Generator commonly known inside law enforcement as a “Blue Daisy,” and tossed it towards the guard and desk. Within moments, the static pulse emitted by the disc disabled the security measures, cameras and knocked the guard out cold.

“Security systems neutralized. Red team is clear to enter,” Saipia whispered into a communicator on her wrist.

“Great work, blue team. Now, fallback and return to base. We’ll take it from here,” came the voice of the leader of the red team.

The blue wolf rolled her eyes. She was fed up with being used for such little tasks. Why send a team in to disable the security measures and not have them finish the mission? “Roger that, red team,” the canine said, despite having no intention of following the orders she was given.

Erica smiled as the two casually approached the security desk. “You have no intention of falling back, do you?” asked the feline.

“You know me too well, Erica,” the leader commented with a very frank tone. “No, we are going to throw a little monkey wrench into their little game. We just need to look like there was an ambush and then set up some lovely flash grenades.”

“And then sit back and wait. When those bastards are all stumbling about, we take ‘em down, right?” Erica asked as Saipia wondered to the big warehouse doors that lead to the main objective.

Peaking through the windows, the smaller Genoid smiled. “Yup. And the chief left us plenty of resources. Jack’s waiting for us inside.” Erica laughed again and followed her friend and captain inside the warehouse. “I would tell you all not to shoot, but I need to set a trap.”

* * *

Roughly three minutes later, outside the doors to the main warehouse, the bodies of everyone inside the large room were spread out around the security desk and hallways. The stage was complete with paint spatter and really looked like an ambush had taken place. Even the four Daisies clutched tightly in the hands of the fallen didn’t seem out of place.

Inside the warehouse, only two bodies were to be found. Saipia laid face down on the ground before a chair, where Evan “Jack” Taylor was slumped over, pretending to also have been shot. It was a gruesome scene and it took the red team by surprise. “What the hell happened here?” The captain of the human squad commented.

“Looks like the furballs tried storm the place themselves. Stupid Genoid bitches,” remarked on of the other humans as he gave Erica’s limp body a rather hefty kick.

“I don’t know, sir. This all seems to realistic. Looks more like an ambush. For us,” said the rookie of the group.

The big chief turned to the new recruit, an irritated look on his face. “There is no way in hell those damned fuzzheads would pull a fast one on me. At least they’d better not. And what makes you say that this is a trap, anyway?”

“Well, boss, this seems like something you’d find in a real life situation. I mean, I have heard of good acting, but everything seems…too right. Also, none of the positions of the bodies seems to make sense. I mean, there’s two bodies way the heck down the hall. Another at a cross point and a bunch in random places around the console. Smells like a setup,” replied the rookie.

“What would you know, you’re just a rookie,” the leader replied and peered through the windows of the doors to the warehouse. “Heh. Looks like the beloved Captain went and got herself killed. What a shame. Well, everyone’s dead here, our job is done.”

“I don’t know boss, taking another look, the rookie makes a lot of sense,” commented another human.

“You idiots, I told you there is no way Saipia would ever pull a fast one on me. I would have her ass in a damn basket if she ever…” the Lieutenant was halted mid sentence when he noticed one of the Blue Daisies blinking. But, by then, it was already too late.

The hallway erupted into a burst of blue light and the leader of the human SWAT team stumbled through the doors of the warehouse while all his mean were ambushed and drenched in pink paint. “Damn! The kid was right!” the big human male snapped as his eyes slowly re-adjusted to the dim light of the warehouse room.

“Maybe you’ll remember that every one on your team is important, and you should take their observations and theories into consideration, because you never know who’s going to be right,” Saipia replied from her spot on the floor.

The big man realized that he had wondered right into another trap, but it was, again, too late. Saipia rolled over onto her back and put three paintballs in the human’s back and two more splattered against the back of his bald head. “You loose, Lieutenant,” the blue wolf announced.

“Who knows, maybe we aren’t just stupid fuzzheads after all. What do you think, Captain?” Erica commented as she slipped through the doors and Jack raised his head.

“I think we just proved we can be just as formidable as and human. I doubt Mr. Hothead would have ever come up with that plan,” Saipia said as she slipped the paintball clip from the gun.

“Wow, Captain, that was pretty slick. I have to admit,” the rookie exclaimed as he blasted through the doors, his paint coated goggles in his hand and a big grin on her face.

“Thanks, Luke. And I’m going to put in a good word with the boss about you. Of all your squad, you were the only one to pick up on the issues the layout of the bodies and sniffed out my little scheme. If I were in charge, you’d get a promotion for that,” said the shorter wolf with a big smile on her face.

“Thanks, Captain, I appreciate that!” the young man returned.

* * *

Saipia and Erica wondered towards their desks while Jack and the rest of the Genoid team followed close behind them. They got bitter looks from all the humans as they passed. Their chief was standing in front of Saipia’s office, a nasty look on his old face. “Oh, doesn’t look like the chief approved of our little stunt,” Erica commented.

“I don’t know why not. In a real situation, nothing is predictable. It took the other team ten minutes to get to us. In that time, we could have been captured and violated and forced to accept the enemy’s beliefs,” replied the blue wolf.

“And I appreciate your desire to throw the boys a curve. It’s the fact that you orchestrated the event and took the kill shot on the lieutenant. Fighting discrimination with discrimination isn’t very smart or legal, Saipia,” the chief said as Erica took a seat at her desk and Saipia wondered towards the old man and her own office.

“I wasn’t. I was providing a more realistic scenerio. Besides, you’re the one that chose to have the Genoids play the bad guys,” Saipia countered as she entered her office and took a seat behind her large oak desk.

“That decision had nothing to do with race,” defended the old man.

“That couldn’t be fresher bull crap if it came from a bull. You and I both know that the discrimination against Genoids in this precinct and around this world is getting way out of hand. And it goes against our duty to encourage the hatred by using the victims as the enemy. I do know of a couple Genoid gangs like the one portrayed today, but they wouldn’t kidnap other Genoids and your SWAT team would be dead before they could enter the building.

“But, the thing is, those gangs are seen as heroes among the Genoid community. We are constantly faced with the hatred and shallow egos of you humans, and those gangs are some of the only Genoids that have the courage to stand up to you.

“Everyone knows of the Genoid slave rings. We all are afraid to go out each morning because, at any time, we could be kidnapped and we know the cops wouldn’t do anything to help us. So, the anti-human gangs are our only help,” explained Saipia.

The chief sighed in defeat. “I’ve actually been thinking about assigning you to a team to help your people. You’re right, the discrimination against the Genoids is getting out of hand.”

“You should allow us to do a full training run without the humans. Or maybe have a setup like one of those damn slavery rings,” suggested the canine after a moment.

The touching moment was interrupted by Erica who briefly stuck her head in between the human and wolf. “Chief, Saipia, you both should see this.”

Immediately, the chief and Saipia slipped from the captain’s office and Erica pointed them towards the large TV that hung on a wall. On the screen was a news reporter who was in the middle of giving some grave news. “..uty Johnathan Alexander was killed when his partner ran him over after an altercation between the two,” said the female fox news anchor. “According to eyewitnesses, Deputy Alexander, who was a Genoid, demanded that his human partner stop and help another Genoid from being beaten in an alley. The two fought about it for a moment. Then, Alexander’s partner got in the patrol car while John went to aid the assault victim. While the sheepdog’s back was turned, his partner ran him over then proceeded to back up over him. The human has been suspended, but many Genoids think that’s not enough.”

“Damn right it’s not enough!” Saipia spat.

“Oh, no, here goes Miss Righteous,” commented one of the human officers while a rabbit was interviewed on the television.

“Righteous, nothing. If he had run over a human, cop or not, he probably would go to jail. And if was a fellow officer, you’d all have his head. But, he runs over a Genoid and all he gets is suspended. That’s a slap on the wrist…for murder. That’s stupid,” Saipia retorted.

“She’s got a point,” said the chief with a shrug. “If you see him around Saipia, feel free to arrest him. For anything you can think of.”

“Oh, so now the chief is a animal lover, huh?” remarked the officer.

“I’ve always supported the Genoids. That’s why I hired them. This department has the highest ranking Genoid officers and it’s not just to have a good image. They deserve their ranks,” defended the chief as he headed towards his office.

“You going to the funeral?” Erica asked.

“Of course. And I would recommend all of the Genoids in this precinct go to the funeral. I’m not going to order you to go, but it would be good to see you all there,” said the captain loud enough for her team to hear.

“I’ll be there. Someone has to watch your back,” replied a taller female maned wolf named James Elissa Connell. She was Saipia’s second in command and an old friend. James hadn’t known Saipia as long as Erica had, but the two were still pretty close.

The blue leader rolled her eyes. “I don’t need to be babysat, James.”

“I know that. But, if you’re going to the funeral of a Genoid, you should expect some protestors. And since this death is a little more high profile, I’m sure the public won’t be all that thrilled to see us,” explained James.

“Ah, the only two captain Genoids in existence, together once again. It’s good to see both of you,” Jack commented as he wandered up to the two women who were gathered around James’ desk.

“Oh, cram it, Jack. I’m married and Saipia only sleeps with who she wants to,” the maned wolf retorted.

“Ah, you make it sound like all I do is try to sleep with you,” the hyena defended.

“I thought that was your job, Evan,” commented James Jewels, a male border collie.

“That’s no way to talk to a superior, J. J.” said Evan.

As Saipia, Erica, James Connell, Evan, and James Jewels chatted amongst each other, Chief Henry Anderton was going over Saipia’s file and those of the other Genoids under his command. He had a decision to make, and it was a tough one.

* * *

When Saipia arrived home that evening, she was greeted warmly by her sister, Gjai (j-eye) who lived with her. Their parents were also there and would be for another two weeks. Gjai was a white wolf, like her sister, but their mother, Zovah, was black. The two got their white fur from their father, while their two brothers, Peter and Ryan, stole their mother’s black fur.

Inside the house was filled with the smells of cooking meat as Saipia’s father, Timothy, was cooking dinner on the back patio.

“Hey, Mom and Dad. How was your drive here? You find the place, alright?” Saipia asked as she gave her mother a warm hug.

“Well, we did find it alright, but I couldn’t help but notice that you live so close to the humans. Isn’t that a little dangerous?” Zovah replied.

“I guess, but we’ve never had a problem. Most of the humans are so afraid of us they just leave us alone. Almost makes you wonder if God was that afraid of His creation when He made man,” said the blue wolf.

Gjai laughed at that. “Well, He had every reason to be.”

“How was work, Sai?” Tim asked as he entered the house to greet his offspring.

“It was alright. We did a training exercise mainly. And I got a new desk, which I’m happy about. The new one is a beautiful ebony color and smooth to the touch. I love it,” said the policewoman.

“Great, now all you have to do is get that promotion,” Tim commented as he went back to his barbequing.

Saipia sighed. “I don’t know about that. I think I’m perfectly happy just being a captain. Now, Miss James. She would probably take a promotion if she could get it. I would not mind working under her.”

“I heard that you two are competing for the chief’s job. That’s pretty big stuff for a Genoid,” Gjai said as she poured herself a glass of water from a filtering container in the fridge.

“Yeah. Chief also mentioned he might create a task force specifically to deal with crimes withing the Genoid community, which would include crimes against Genoids by other Genoids and crimes committed by and against the humans,” Saipia replied.

“That’s good. That’s something we need,” Tim said as he brought in a plate of freshly cooked steaks.

“Does the chief know your brothers lead the two largest Genoid gangs?” Gjai asked.

“No. But, my brothers are harmless. They’re only trying to protect their people. And perhaps, if there was a task force assigned to clean up our community, they could find more honest work,” answered the blue wolf.

Gjai just laughed. “I’m certain your brothers would be very grateful to you for the help.”

“And would be excited about the promotion you’d receive,” said Jovah.

Saipia nodded. “Yeah. Anyways, I wanna wash out this dye before I eat,” said the younger wolf as she made her way down a hallway to her room and shower.

It was two weeks before Deputy Johnathan Alexander was buried. James was right, there were a lot of protestors that hung out by the road. Several of their signs declared that God hated them and that they should all be slaughtered. “Who the hell protests at a funeral?” Saipia whispered to her second in command, both women were in their formal blue police dress suits, which displayed their rank for the world to see.

“Them apparently. If you want, we can arrest them. They are technically disturbing the peace,” James muttered back.

That was a very tempting offer. But, Saipia figured that it wouldn’t help their cause if she went through with it. “No. I think being dumb enough to protest at a funeral is enough punishment.”

“They obviously have never actually read the Bible, I’ll tell you that,” commented Erica who stood to Saipia’s right.

Saipia and James both laughed at that. “True. Either that, or they’re just plane flat lying outright. Although, if you’re looking for support from the community, religion probably isn’t your best bet,” said the blue captain.

“I’m sorry, ladies, but could you keep it down back there,” ordered Tiffany Alexander, Johnathan’s widow.

“Sorry, ma’am,” apologized Saipia.

* * *

As the Genoid officers wandered back to their police SUV to head back to the precinct, the protestors got louder and approached them. “You should all go to hell,” shouted one of the protestors.

“Yeah. God hates you. You’ve got no reason to live,” added a woman.

“I wouldn’t say God hates us. If He did, He wouldn’t have created us,” Saipia commented before she noticed one of her fellow officers amongst the crowd. “Officer Stevens? What the hell are you doing amongst the protestors?”

“Trying to put an end to you and your pathetic breed!” the human cop said.

“Well, I don’t know if you’ll ever be successful in that, but I will be successful in carrying out my duty and having you fired from the force. A police officer should never discriminate against anyone or anything,” said the captain.

“Screw you, Saipia! You can’t fire me!” countered the man.

“Excuse you? Last time I checked, I’m a captain,” the blue canine replied as she pointed to the rank on her color, “and you’re just a sergeant. That means, I can fire you.”

The off duty officer stepped through the crowd and took a swing at Saipia, angered by her accusations and threats to end his career. He didn’t notice Erica and Jack moving up behind him. Before he could begin his assault, Jack had the man’s hands behind him. “Sir, do yourself a favor and back off,” warned the tall hyena.

The man wasn’t that smart, though, and spit in Jack’s face. As Jack let go to wipe off the saliva, the man struck Erica in the face. Instantly, the female leopard tackled the man and cuffed his hands behind his back. “Why are you arresting me? Why are you arresting me?” demanded the human. “You damn Genoid bitches! I’ll have your head for this! My father’s…”

“You’re father can take up any complaints with the chief and you’re under arrest for assaulting a police officer. Although, you do have the right to remain silent, I’m guessing you’re not smart enough to use it,” replied Erica.

“Assault? What you’re doing to me is…” Before he could finish, Saipia stepped forward with a can of mace.

“Sir, shut up, or I’ll spray you with mace. I strongly suggest you listen to me,” the blue wolf warned.

“I have a right to speak, bitch!” said the man as he tried to kick the captain.

With that, Saipia dosed the man’s face with the capsaicin derived compound. Instantly, the man was blinded and quickly stopped talking. A couple human officers strolled up and lead their former fellow officer to their patrol car. “You alright, Lieutenant?” asked one of the officers.

“I’ll be fine. But, I’m starting to side with Saipia on the whole discrimination thing. This is really getting out of hand,” said the cat.

“Agreed,” replied the other officer.

“Isn’t the mayor supposed to pass a law making discrimination against Genoids illegal?” asked the other human.

Saipia nodded as Erica quickly got in the SUV. “Laws mean nothing without someone to enforce them. And it would be a hell of a lot easier to simply make discrimination in general illegal. You humans are sad that way. You have to pass specific laws. You can’t just generalize laws against things that are generally bad.”

“Right. Anyways, you all should get out of here. We’ll take care of him, Captain,” said the first officer.

* * *

On the way back to the precinct, they had to stop to rescue a fellow Genoid from being raped by some random human male that was deep within Genoid territory. This lead them to believe that he was part of one of the several abduction rings. “You’re lucky the Genoid Peace Law hasn’t been passed yet,” Saipia commented as she took a seat on the man’s right and Jack sat to his left.

Saipia’s phone rang and the little screen informed her it was the chief. “Hello, Chief, what’s up?” greeted the captain. “Right. Understood.” The blue wolf hung up her phone. “The chief wants to see James and I in his office when we get back. Apparently, the mayor is paying a visit.”

“Sounds exciting. I’ve never met the mayor before,” James said.

“I have. She’s one of the better humans I’ve met. You’ll like her,” Saipia replied.

“I’m sure. I usually like the same people you do, Captain,” James commented with a smirk.

“Oh, bite me, James. And you technically don’t have to call me by my rank,” retorted the blue wolf.

“You are my superior officer, though. Despite us being the same rank, the chief chose you to be the leader, not me,” James said.

Saipia didn’t know what to say to that. She respected James, and would much rather follow her lead than lead her. However, she also knew that the maned wolf had great respect for her blue dyed captain. But, that was something to dwell on later. Meeting with the mayor always made Saipia a little nervous, despite the old woman’s gentle nature. She always felt like she was at an interview whenever she met with the mayor. And to a certain degree, she was right.

* * *

The two female canines slipped into the chief’s office and were greeted by a smiling Mayor Ashley Langly. “Welcome ladies. Mayor, you already know Captain Saipia, but the maned wolf next to her is Captain James Elissa Connell,” introduced the chief.

“It’s good to meet you, Captain James. That’s a very peculiar name for a woman,” the mayor said as she shook the taller woman’s hand.

“Yeah. My father was a prankster. He thought it would be hilarious to give me a boys name. And, to be honest, it is pretty funny to watch the look on people’s faces when they discover I’m female,” replied the red and black canine who was still dressed in her formal uniform.

The 52-year-old human laughed at that. “I bet. But, I’m not here to discuss names. It has come to my attention that the discrimination issue between you Genoids and us humans has been getting out of hand very fast.”

“That’s correct, ma’am. We just got back from a funeral, and one of my officers is nursing nasty bruise on her cheek and we think we caught someone involved in one of the Genoid abduction rings,” reported the blue wolf

“Genoid abduction rings?” exclaimed the mayor.

“Yes, ma’am. In the past four years, there have been several reports of Genoid women being abducted and sold as sex slaves. And recenlty, men have being abducted,” explained Saipia.

“We know this because we’ve had survivors come in and complain. We’ve also had a couple former members of the rings confess. We pretty much have all the evidence we need to close at least one of the rings down for good,” added Captain James.

“Well, you’re going to get that chance. As of now, I’m making all Genoids in law enforcement equal members of the force. And all Genoids as equal members of society. This means if anyone commits a crime, you all can arrest them. And the chief tells me that he is eager to set up a special task force to help control the crime rate amongst and against the Genoid population. And I just want to say that he has my blessing, as do you. You may select any officers you think you will need to form it, as well. And if you do wish to go through with this, I will personally give you a promotion to…Assistant Chief, is it?”

“Yes, that would be the next rank. Although, ‘Assistant Chief Saipia Jones’ doesn’t have as nice a ring to it as ‘Captain Saipia Jones,’” said the Genoid leader.

“I don’t know, I think the title fits you,” James replied.

“Well, what do you say, you want help your people?” asked the mayor.

“I would love to. I think I even have a title for the task force: ‘Genoid Urban Equalization and Safety Team’ or ‘G.U.E.S.T.’” answered Saipia.

Everyone smiled that the name. “Sounds good. You’ll be the most needed ‘guests’ ever.”

“You have an idea as to who you want to be part of your team?” asked the chief.

Saipia nodded. “Captain James, of course, Lieutenant Erica Martin, Lieutenant Evan Taylor, Sergeant James Jewels and Sergeant Bryan Andrews.”

“Andrews?” the chief asked.

“Yes. He may keep to himself a lot, but he’s a great doctor. He’ll be a great addition to my team,” Saipia said.

“Well, it’s your team. I’ll inform all of those officers to meet you in the briefing room tomorrow. There we will hand out the new uniforms and let you select which weapons you think you’ll need, and send you out of your first mission. Later that evening you’ll all meet with the mayor where she will publicly promote you and announce the formation of your team,” ordered the chief.

“Sounds good. Just so I know, what will be our first mission?” Saipia asked.

“Well, I figured you can decide that for yourself,” answered the old man.

The two officers quickly exchanged knowing glances and their tails swayed once in unison. “The Abduction Rings should be our first targets,” suggested James.

“Just what I was thinking,” Saipia said with a nod.

“I would also have a long talk with your brothers this weekend, Sai. I do not wish to be forced to arrest them,” James half ordered.

“My brothers are harmless, James. They have been doing what needed to done while our hands and paws were tied,” Saipia half scolded.

“Her brothers?” the chief asked.

“Saipia’s brothers are the leaders of the two largest Genoid gangs in the city. Although, they mean well, the same can’t be said for all their followers,” James explained.

“And you have failed to mention this, because…?” the chief wondered, looking irritably at the team leader.

“They’ve actually provided us with a lot of information about the abduction rings. I didn’t want to risk getting fired and loosing a valuable source of information,” defended Saipia.

“Good defense. Don’t worry, you’re much too valuable to this precinct to fire. I’m sure your brothers will be more than helpful in apprehending the ring leaders,” said the chief.

With skill and precision, the members of G. U. E. S. T. snuck into the hideout of the one of the five Genoid Abduction Rings. This one specialized in selling 14-40-year-old Genoid women as sex toys. As the group crept through the building, they were faced with the rooms that were used to break in the women. Some were being forced to get addicted to drugs. Most were naked, and all were covered with the stench of their own waist. The group past what was essentially a body farm, where the dead bodies were hauled. There, they decomposed and rotted.

The officers felt relief in the fact that this was the worst of the rings, but felt pain at the amount of bodies in the farm and the condition of the women. A lot of them were on their way to death, and the rest were constantly sick. “God, talk about someone who doesn’t care about his merchandise,” commented Erica.

“Yeah. Just think about the men that buy these girls. You’d have to be demented to buy something that’s pretty much half dead,” Captain James agreed.

“That just means we’ll have to hunt down their client list, doesn’t it. But, I’m sure I can task a couple other teams to take care of them while we go after the other rings,” Saipia spoke up as Jack put a bullet through the head of a guard.

Saipia had told her team that any humans they came across were considered armed and dangerous and gave them the green light to use deadly force, saying, “They probably won’t want to simply go quietly and give up their lucrative business. I’m sure if we get caught, we’ll simply become merchandise ourselves.”

The horrifying scenes continued until they reached the top floor of the building. There, everything was clean and sanitary. “Play rooms, I’m guessing. Just remember, I want to take the leader alive.”

“Didn’t know you were one for keeping trophies,” Jack joked.

Saipia rolled her eyes. “Alright, it’s time to go silent. No talking unless necessary.”

The four other officers nodded their acknowledgment as the crept slowly down the well maintained halls of the hideout. They came across a vixen maid who was a little shocked to see them. Saipia put a finger to her lips to quiet the maid, and the fox nodded her understanding then pointed towards a door before wandering a little closer. “There’s a car waiting downstairs for you and any other survivors. Please help who you can,” Saipia whispered.

“Right. Thank you, officer,” the fox agreed and quickly made her way through the stairway door.

As the officers took up residence outside the door, Saipia got one of her Daisies ready. James knocked on the door. “This is the police, open up or we will open fire,” Saipia called.

They were answered with a barrage of bullets through the door. Nothing even came close to the officers, but it did open up a large hole in the door. Saipia took the opportunity while those inside the room changed magazines and tossed in the SPG. In a burst of blue light the commotion inside the room stopped and the tactical team quickly entered. Saipia brought her comm link watch to her mouth. “Alright, suspects neutralized, send in the calvary.”

Within moments, more Genoid officers stormed in and slapped cuffs on the incompasitated humans. Once they were all secure, teams went through the rooms and arrested any human they came across and rescued any Genoid they found.

As everyone filed out of the main doors, Saipia shook her head as she turned to face Captain James. “It’s going to take months to sort through all the dead to find out who is who.”

“Yeah. I’m sure some of them won’t ever be identified. It was a pretty disturbing scene in there. But this is why this team was created,” the maned wolf agreed.

The blue wolf nodded as a skunk dressed in cheerleading outfit approached them. “Thank you all! You are truly guardian angels sent to rescue us. I can’t tell you how grateful I am.”

“You’re welcome, miss,” Saipia said, smiling at the term the Genoid had used. She now had a great nickname for her merry little band of heroes. One she liked a lot more than G. U. E. S. T.

And as Saipia Jones stood next to the mayor, a single gold star replacing the twin bars on her lapel, and a big smile on her mammalian snout as she looked out over all the people she was now being tasked to protect. In those faces, she spotted some familiar eyes. Her brothers were watching, as was her sister and her parents. That only made that moment all the more special and important to the blue wolf. “And it is my honor to introduced to you the first task force dedicated to cleaning up the streets within the Genoid community…” the mayor started.

Saipia leaned over to the mayor and whispered something to her. “…Ah. Without any further delay: to law enforcement they will be known as the Genoid Urban Equalization and Safety Team, or G. U. E. S. T., but you can call them Guardian Angels.”
